POSITION TITLE:     School Counselor

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must hold a currently valid 5-year standard Mississippi Educator License
  • Applicant must validate technology competency during the first year of license by attaining the estabblished minimum score or higher on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The assessment must be directly related to technology competency required by the grade level and subject matter being taught.
  • Applicant must demonstrate the ability to function in and maintain a networked laboratory.

 

REPORTS TO:       Director and District Office Staff

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      

220-days contract with salary and dates to be established by the Board of Education.

 

APPOINTMENT:                            

The counselor shall be recommended by the director and the superintendent and appointed by the board.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   

Standing, walking, sitting, lifting and carrying (up to 10 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving furniture may be required. The position requires the ability to perceive the nature of the object by the eye and the ability to give and receive information through effective speaking, listening, and writing skills.

                                                           

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages the total instructional program; is responsible for making sure that planning, instruction, curriculum and assessment are aligned in order to meet the needs of students both collectively and individually; and is responsible for student academic achievement and growth.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:    

Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the director and district office staff.  The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

NOTE:

If the applicant meets all requirements listed above, that applicant will be issued an endorsement supplemental to their existing five-year license. If the applicant does not meet all requirements, the applicant will be issued an emergency endorsement, and all requirements for the supplemental endorsement must be satisfied prior to the renewal date of the standard license.
